Hiking around Overath

It’s been close to 6 years that we are hiking in different areas around Düsseldorf, and now it’s getting increasingly more difficult to find totally new paths. Today, somehow I managed to create a path around Overath, and it was mostly new.

Unfortunately I could announce it only yesterday evening, so maybe a lot of people got other plans in the meantime. Especially from Düsseldorf central there were not so many people joining. What a pity. But on the other hand there were actually quite a lot of new people today. Nice

We often went to the northern side of Overath, but today we were going southward. It’s on the edge of the Bergisches Land and I know that there are not so many forests here, but somehow I managed to create a path going mostly through forests in the first part of the hike. After we left the city, it was actually quite comfortable to walk.

We could almost call today’s hike a winter hike, as there was hardly any up and down, and we could have probably easily been able to walk this even if the weather had been bad. I was not in the area this week, but it looks like it rained in the last few days in this area. We were lucky that the weather was mostly ok today.

We had a break in the middle of the trail. There was a restaurant with a nice garden in front. In addition, the toilets of the restaurant were actually outside so that even the ones who didn’t go to the restaurant could go to the toilet. Nice :D.

When we were about to start hiking again, it started raining for a few minutes. I mean we can hardly complain considering the fact that it rains really a lot in this period of time in Germany.

In the second half of the trail, there were a lot of asphalted roads. There were a few cars every now and then. I don’t think there could have been a better path than this, but you might want to avoid this part if you happen to walk in this area.

At some point, we somehow managed to lose more than half of the participants. We saw them only at the end of the hike. I wonder what happened to them.

There was an ice cream parlor in Overath after the hike, but they said it was their last day of the year, before going to winter break, so they had only a few flavors left. In a way we were lucky that there was still some ice cream left, but pity that there are now less possibilities in the winter. Well, there are other cool things in winter, we will certainly find other stuff to do 🙂
