    Hiking from Wuppertal-Vohwinkel to Neviges!

This summer is quite difficult to understand. We’ve been going through a roller coaster which this week reached maybe its lowest point, which was rather fortunate, since today’s hike wasn’t so deep in the nature. Well, not so deep in…

    Hiking from Hagen-Westerbauer to Heubing!

You might have noticed that we did not go to Hagen for quite some time now. The reason is simple: we went there too often. So I waited a few weeks until today to make everyone forget Hagen, which today…

Hiking from Essen to Velbert and Street Food and Music Festival!

There’s this city called Velbert, which is certainly not the biggest city in the Ruhr area, but one middle sized city. This city doesn’t have a train station, so that it makes it quite difficult for a group of up…

Hiking from Eitorf to Merten
Hey! We’re reaching the day with the longest sunshine hours. Why not enjoy this great moment with other people outside? This time we’re hiking from Eitorf to Merten, going along this beautiful Siegsteig! Download kml / gpx So the plan is quite simple: we’re gonna see each other in front of Köln Hbf at 10:00. Then: Dep: 10:21 Köln Hbf – Platform 3 (RE9(10909)) Arr: 10:58 Eitorf – Platform 1 Then we start hiking. Easy, isn’t it? If you come from a different city, feel free to join us wherever you want on the way! It’s within the VRS region so if you have a VRS ticket, you can travel there for free. Even if you don’t it’s very likely that someone can take you for free so just be there in time! Then we’ll walk according to this map (in kml-format) or this map (in gpx-format). The total distance is something like 16.1km. We’ll have a break at the river Sieg. The total duration of the hike according to Komoot is 4:34. We will probably be back in Köln Hbf around 16:45. Komoot says this track is of average difficulty. So feel free to join us and enjoy! It would be helpful if you’d bring something to eat and a picnic blanket. You are also very welcome to bring a ball/frisbee, a guitar and more! Regardless of the weather, I will NOT cancel the event, so please check it out yourselves and decide whether to come or not yourselves. For further useful info read this (highly recommended). Hope to see you there! Subscribe to the Telegram channel

Cycling along Canal du Midi!
This is the preceding trip to the Pentecost trip to Ax-les-Thermes, in a smaller group, so not a perfectly public event. The idea is to cycle from Toulouse to Sète along the Canal du Midi, which is one of the most beautiful canals in Europe. Quick overview: May 29: Arrival in Toulouse May 30: Toulouse -> Castelnaudary (rent bikes in Toulouse) May 31: Castelnaudary -> Carcassonne June 1: Carcassonne -> Béziers June 2: Béziers -> Sète June 3: Sète -> Ax-les-Thermes (return bikes on the way in Toulouse) Day I (May 29): Arrival in Toulouse sometime during the day (Accommodation?). According to this page, train tickets will be available from 4 months before. I booked an apartment. Day II (May 30): We can rent a bicycle for example at Maison du Vélo, which offers the possibility of returning the bicycles in Sète afterwards (this costs 50€ more so maybe not). We will cycle from Toulouse to Castelnaudary according to the map below. I booked an apartment there. Day III (May 31): We cycle from Castelnaudary to Carcassonne. The track is relatively short, but since Carcassonne is an interesting city, I guess we can arrive there early and do sightseeing 😎. I booked an apartment. They say the bikes can be put in the garage. Day IV (June 1): We cycle from Carcassonne to Béziers. This one is going to be fairly long – we should start fairly early in the morning. I already booked an apartment, but this place might not have a washing machine (although in the review they say that the owner is so friendly that we can use their washing machine). Day V (June 2): On the last day, we cycle from Béziers to Sète and hope that we can return the bicycles when we arrive there. If not … well let’s see :). On the way there, we might be able to swim (do not forget to bring swimming stuff). There’s also the museum of George Brassens in Sète (whoever that is). I booked an apartment. Day VI (June 3): Travelling from Sète to Ax-les-Thermes. It looks like there are connections every 2 hours, last one departing from 3pm. It costs around 40€. All connections go over Toulouse, so if we happen to have to return the bicycles there, we can leave early in the morning. Estimated cost: Accommodations: 40€ (?) / night x 5 nights = 200€ Renting a bicycle: 100€ (?) Train from Sète to Ax-les-Thermes: 40€ (?) Total ~340€ Things to clarify: Check whether the accommodation in Castelnaudary has space for bikes Check whether the accommodation in Béziers has space for bikes Check whether the accommodation in Sète has space for bikes Whether we’re gonna leave hiking stuff (for the subsequent weekend trip) in Toulouse List of participants: Jana Shrijal Kartik Sam

Pentecost trip to Pyrenees!
Hey! It’s Pentecost! We got a great long weekend! Why don’t you make sense of such a great weekend with a lot of cool people? This time we’re going to this beautiful city of Ax-les-Thermes, in the middle of the Pyrenees! So the plan is very simple: Come to Ax-les-Thermes some time during the day on June 3. I’ve already booked a place for 10 people, so you don’t need to organise anything for the stay. Since it’s an AirBnB, we have to organise breakfast and everything on the spot. Day I (June 4, 2022): We can hike according to the following map after breakfast: Download kml / gpx There’s apparently also a jazz concert in a small local café. Day II (June 5, 2022): We take the train leaving at 9:43 and go to Mérens-les-Vals and start hiking according to this map: Download kml / gpx Day III (June 6, 2022) Probably I don’t organise anything in particular on the last day – we can maybe go to Toulouse and do sightseeing 🙂 It’s anyway a super interesting city. For now I’d say 50€ per person for 3 nights (!?). The place doesn’t offer linen and towels which can be rented for 35€ and 15€, respectively. I’ll get croissants etc every morning, whose costs will be shared, but except for this I’d say we buy stuff for the breakfast individually. There’s a night train from Paris to Ax les Thermes, so think about taking it! If you do so, you might also want to think about taking a Carte Weekend beforehand, which is the French equivalent of Bahncard. It costs 49€ a year and you and a person you’ll be with can have a 30% discount on the train ticket. List of items that could be useful: Portable dishes & cutlery & Tupperwares Swimming stuff ? Rope + hiking sticks List of participants: Jana Aseel Shrijal Zaman Sarah Kartik Julien Miriam Salima Gopi Amir Sam

Weekend trip to Harz!
Hey! It’s July! Time to enjoy vacations! This time we’re going to Goslar, which famously lies on this beautiful area called Harz! Here’s the plan: We’ll see each other some time in the afternoon of July 8, 2022 in the house at Bäckerstraße 70. I already booked it for 10 people. From Düsseldorf it takes quite some time so make sure that you leave early enough :). Day II (July 9): We’ll probably walk along the route below: Day III (July 10): So far I don’t have anything. Let me know if you have an idea! Since the train connection is going to be somewhat complicated, please organise the journey to Goslar yourselves. I booked an apartment for 10 people. It costs (probably) 31,5€ per person. As always, don’t transfer the money yet. Items to take: Swimming stuff? (not sure but we’re going to a lake) Ear plugs List of participants: Aseel Batool Shrijal Felipe Akshit Gopi Saki Niloofar Amir Sam
