Hiking report

Hiking from Dahl to Hohenlimburg

If you look at all the group photos since the beginning of this year, you might notice one thing: the weather has been horrible. Actually, if we speak of this whole period it is not quite true. It’s just, it’s always only the weekend that things get really bad. And today, once again, the weekend came together with rain.

As you might already know, this area, south of Hagen, is the beginning of what is called Sauerland, which is a mountainous sparsely inhabited area. We do love go hiking in this area, but it is extremely difficult to find a place to have a break. So did today’s hiking trail become somewhat tight in distance and area, because I didn’t want to compromise a proper place for a break but also not to make the hike overly long. In the end, I took a rather bland path along the valley with a bit of traffic, which is certainly not characteristic of this area. I was inclined to change the trail until a few days back, but did not do so when I saw the weather forecast. It might have been actually fortunate that the trail stayed just as it was, since this area can get messy in bad weathers.

At the beginning of the hike, I called the restaurant which I had spotted for the break just to be sure they’d have enough space for everyone. They didn’t. There was one carpet shop (of course closed; Sunday) which offered a roof where we could have a break. I didn’t think that it would be that difficult to find place elsewhere.

The trail became somewhat more interesting after the break. The random paths that I had chosen for this part turned out to be quite okay, or rather, it was fairly good.

The trail can be downloaded from this link (in kml-format) or this link (in gpx-format)
