Hiking from Bad Breisig to Andernach

Now for a few days I’m working on the Telegram bot again. This time in order to make automatic creation of events for everyone, especially after I saw different standards last week. Now it’s more or less ready, but everyone now seems to go on vacation, so that I cannot test it for the others. At least I can use it for my own purpose in the next weeks, so let’s see how it’s gonna turn out.

So today I organized the hike. As there was yet another beer festival, this time in Andernach, which we haven’t been to so far, I organized a track from Bad Breisig, basically going along this beautiful range of hills just like every time we come to this area. This appeared to me like a brilliant idea, but the weather forecast was not really with us: Thunderstorm alarm. So in the end we were a group of only 15 people. Well, that’s actually not so bad for such a day.

It was a simple direct train from Düsseldorf to Bad Breisig with RE 5. Quite surprisingly, there was no delay at all. The train came as announced and arrived as announced. Not a surprise that thunderstorms were announced.

Right after we left the train station, we entered the nature. Today it was so hot and moist, very difficult weather for a hike. Yesterday was horribly hot, and we were happy to see some rain in the night, expecting the temperature to drop drastically. That was only partly true, as it was still quite hot.

When we reached the top of the first hill, the weather was actually pretty ok. The view was quite amazing, with people taking a lot of photos there.

But then a few minutes later, Tim got a thunderstorm warning on his phone. We all checked or weather apps. No one was seeing serious rainfall nearby, so we kind of decided to continue, but then within a minute or to it started pouring down. Luckily, we were in the city of Brohl in that moment, and some of us could go underneath a roof. Some other people, who were in front, stayed under a tree or so. They got totally wet. eyeyey.

Then we started moving again, but a few minutes later it started again. Fortunately, we were still inside Brohl, so we could find some refuge, but I was seriously wondering whether we would be able to complete the hike if we have to find a place to stay every few minutes.

When it stopped, we continued. It was still showering, but it was not pouring badly. The ground got quite slippery, but at the same time it cooled down a lot. I was actually fairly happy to see the effect on the temperature. Unfortunately, some people left after this part.

But the view points today were really good. They are always so promising around this area, as you can see the surrounding areas really well. As the rain stopped also entirely, it was more fun taking photos.

The forest today was really dense. I felt like we were walking in the Amazon or something. There were also a lot of insects, not so surprisingly. I hope I didn’t catch ticks today.

There were also some places where the stones were placed a bit more artificially. Apparently it is an area where people used to live in the prehistoric ages. I didn’t read the descriptions, but it looked plausible.

Today we were kind separated again, but this time basically in two groups. I saw the first group only at the beginning and the end. I was in the second group, with something like 7 people. It wasn’t quite as bad as last week.

We had a second break at Namedy. OpenStreetMap was saying there would be a restaurant there, but there wasn’t. Anyway we sat there and had a break because we were also quite tired. Some people went to the castle as well. I could have some nap in the meantime. It was really good.

When the break started I really didn’t feel like going uphill again, but after the nap I got some energy again, and we could easily manage this part. It was also not that hilly after all, only going up one time and then down.

And as I announced, there was a beer festival at Andernach. At the same time our train got cancelled, so we had plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere. Frankly I very much liked the fact that our train got cancelled, as we didn’t have to think too much about which train to take. This year we only tried to go to the beer festival in Koblenz, where we totally failed as we arrived kind of late. Here I really liked the atmosphere because it was not overcrowded and there was plenty of space. We bought different kinds of beer and snacks. I think we all enjoyed it a lot. With this success in mind, maybe I should organize another hike with a beer festival in the near future. Let’s see.

Well, our train got a delay of 20 min. Fine, not everything goes perfectly.
