Hiking from Solingen-Schaberg to Sengbach

If there’s one place that I take people from outside of Germany to, then Solingen-Schaberg definitely comes to my mind, with the neatly organized nature and the Schlossburg, which is a medieval-looking castle you can enter. Today, as there was someone asking me to organize a hike at Sengbach, I created a hike there and included also Schlossburg.

I cannot remember how many times we took this train from Düsseldorf to Schaberg. This is the one that goes over Solingen where the connecting train is waiting on the other side of the platform. A few weeks ago there was a problem with this, as the app apparently thought it had to wait for the next train. But today the correct connection was shown.

Today it was finally a little bit like summer, even though it was not so warm yet. Maybe summer is coming very soon 🙂

The group is getting larger again. The group photo you see here contains only part of the participants today. This, even though there was another hike yesterday. Apparently people are really coming back to this group. What a weird dynamics.

There was this slide in fron of Schaberg. We use it every now and then, but today for some reason many people wanted to do it multiple times. So we stopped there for a moment. What a weird day 😀

Even though it doesn’t really feel like summer yet, the green is turning darker, announcing the arrival of the summer. Especially here in Solingen it gets quite massively green. It’s really nice walking around in this environment.

There is this bridge that goes over the Wupper. It was under construction a few years ago. I don’t know when they finished constructing it, but now it’s there and is fully functional.

This lake, Sengbach, was actually quite a highlight today. It’s kind of weird that I didn’t know anything about this place, because it’s right below Schlossburg. With so much sunlight and the colorful contrast, we could shoot a lot of beautiful photos. Some of them look like we took them on vacation in a southern country or so.

I didn’t really realize it when I created the hiking trail, but Schlossburg was a lot farther away than the halfway point. So some people stopped somewhere on the way and had a break. Since I really wanted to have a longer break at Schlossburg, I continued with some other guys.

There were not so many people on the way to Schlossburg, but Schlossburg itself was really crowded. Maybe there are also tourists who came for the European championship. But the great thing about this place is that there’s enough space for everyone. We sat close to the cable car, with a waffle stand. I didn’t buy anything, but some people went to a restaurant, others got coffee etc. It was like a nice easygoing Sunday all of a sudden. Since the ones who had a break earlier still wanted to stop there as well, I had enough time to have a short nap. Finally it feels a little bit like summer.

I don’t know how many times in the past 7 years we walked this path from Schlossburg to Schaberg. I guess by now I can walk eyes closed. This time the broken house next to the bridge was entirely gone and the nature was completely covering the site.

Just like every time we stopped under the highest railway bridge in Germany at Schaberg, because there’s a nice grass field with the Wupper underneath. The Wupper is one of very few very clean rivers here. Today the water was freezing cold, but the sun was quite warm, so it was a comfortable mixture of both. Anyway people enjoyed relaxing there.

I got this fake ice cream, and we went up to the train station. There are trains every 30 min, so there was not much of a reason to hurry up, but we somehow all decided to take the same train. We arrived right before the train arrived and we went back home..
