Hiking from Langerfeld to Schwelm
Today, Davy was supposed to organize a hike, but since the weather looked relatively bad, he didn’t want to do it anymore, so I took it over, and according to the weather, I made a relatively simple one at Schwelm. That’s an area we used to visit a lot before DeutschlandTicket was introduced, because that was pretty much the only one hilly place within the VRR area, which therefore we could still visit for free. Today it was a handy destination, because it was nearby, and I could offer a restaurant at Beyenburg, where we were going to have a break.
It appeared almost absurd that we had to change trains at Wuppertal Oberbarmen, only to take the S bahn for 2 min for the next station. Besides it had some delay. Well, at least it came at some point.
I came back from the south of Spain yesterday, where the maximum temperature was around 35 degrees everyday. I didn’t expect it to drop by nearly 20 degrees by coming back to Germany. I thought September would still be somewhat summer-ish. Not at all. Somehow it looks like the winter broke in very early this year. Where’s the climate change?
Still I was happy to see quite a number of people joining today’s hike. The train station was quite full when we started walking.

As I already stated above, this area is relatively hilly. We could go up the hill right from the beginning. Besides we were in a relatively thick forest. I found it pretty nice given the proximity of this area from Düsseldorf.

There were even a few locations where the nature was overwhelming. I wouldn’t say it was really an adventure, but every now and then I thought maybe we wouldn’t make it through. As a matter of fact, we actually also had to change the track a little bit.

There were also nice fields around us, with horses and other animals present. In this regard, I think there was a nice mixture of both wilderness and a bit of nice views.

Initially, I was expecting a bad weather for today, so I chose Bayenburg, which has a lot of restaurants. In the end, the weather was pretty ok, but I was still happy to choose this place, because I found out, after so many times we spent time at Beyenburg, there was a nice church in front of which we could easily picknick. It was pretty cold, but we still had a nice break there.

In the meantime I found out that the restaurant where we used to have a break now belongs to history. Well, life is like this sometimes.

There were also some challenging places as well, apparently because it rained a lot the last few days. There were no casualties, but I guess we enjoyed the challenge.
Somehow people did not want to have an ice cream at the end, or maybe they didn’t realize that there was this option. I was anyway the only one rushing to the ice cream shop. When I went to the train station, people were just waiting for the train. Why didn’t they have a nicer time in the city instead of waiting at the platform? Well, anyway we then got back to Düsseldorf and had a nice dinner in an Indian restaurant. Such a perfect day!
