Hiking report

Hiking from Keil to Heimbach!

Since the end of the 9-euro ticket, we have this promotion that allows us to go everywhere inside NRW for free. As it was so warm last week, I thought we can still have a nice hike in the Eifel, which is a beautiful area not far from Cologne.

Unfortunately, my guess turned out to be fairly wrong: it was slightly above 0 degrees. At least it was not raining in the morning.

Compared to last week, where there were a large number of people, it was a seizable amount of people today. As it was in the Eifel, most of the people were from Cologne, Bonn and the surrounding areas.

Eifel is this massive green area. It kind of started right after we left the train station. We first walked along a main road (but still in the forest), crossed a field and walked inside a large forest. Every now and then I could see some fields as well.

Just like in many cases there was no one from Germany joining this time. Otherwise I would say there was a nice mixture of people from everywhere.

We were planning to have a break in this city called Gemünde. Just before the city, there was a nice place to stop. Today, for the first time in this season, I brought my cooking equipment, to make tea. Just as I had expected, it took too much time, and the others except for Soumil went to the city to have lunch there. Eventually I had some tea, but there must be some improvement.

The city was kind of dead. With quite a number of people, maybe we could contribute to the local economy.

We had a very long break (frankly I didn’t feel like moving anymore XD) and went into the forest again. There was a long slope to the top and it became somewhat flat. Actually today’s hike was one of the most exemplary ones where we have two peaks before and after the break.

In the second half it also started raining and it actually didn’t stop till the end of the day. Winter is here again…

It started getting dark towards the end of the hike. But to be honest, it was also kind of nice to walk through the forest right before sunset. It kind of announces the end of the hike.

It was raining quite badly when we reached Heimbach. Luckily, we just had to wait at the train station. It was freezing cold today. We then directly went back to Düsseldorf (although I still fetched an ice cream while changing trains in Düren :D)
