Hiking report

Hiking from Ennepetal to Hagen

Spring is coming, little by little. I didn’t know before, but there are also cherry trees in the Hofgarten in Düsseldorf, which started flourishing. The temperature goes up and down everyday, but that’s how it is in spring. It feels somewhat weird this year, because we did not hike in the rain very often this winter, so except for the temperature, which I don’t really care about, there’s not much I appreciate for the arrival of the spring.

It looks like there are more and more people signing up over Meetup. I reported it a few times before, but the fact that we got a new organizer played indeed a significant role. The group is still not quite as large as it used to be during corona or before, but it’s definitely coming back.

Before the introduction of the DeutschlandTicket, we hiked often in the area of Ennepetal or Wuppertal, which is basically the only somewhat hilly forestal place in the VRR area. I still love this place, but it’s now extremely difficult to find a path we have not visited yet.

Ennepetal is on the edge of the Sauerland, bordered by the river Wupper. So you can be in a massive forest and have a nice view over the valley, which was also sometimes the case today.

I think this was the first time that I planned a hike without a break. As Anita was walking in front, it was basically up to her to decide where to stop. There was no dry place, so wherever it would have been it wouldn’t have been very comfortable. Anyway, we stopped in the middle of nowhere. As I had my fire again, I prepared tea for everyone, although I announced it this morning right before the meeting time, so only few people brought a cup with them. As the temperature is rising now, I don’t think I’m going to make tea very often anymore, but probably next winter it’s going to be a more official activity.

There was an ice cream shop at the end of the hike today, right before we reached the train station. It was finally a kind of weather people would buy an ice cream. Spring is there.
