Hiking report

Hiking around Leichlingen!

I have to admit I’m writing this article 4 weeks after we finished the hike and I don’t really remember the details – the main reason being due to the one for Crete, which took quite some time for me to write.

As we were enjoying Crete a lot, I did not really want to organize a hike this weekend. Hilal fortunately got some time these days and decided to organize a hike instead. It’s so nice that this group is becoming so autonomous.

Leichlingen was an area that we did not visit very often before. It was because it lies right outside of the VRR area and a lot of people needed to buy an extra ticket to go there, even though it is right next to Düsseldorf and quite crucially, very flat. When the DeutschlandTicket was introduced and the distinction was not so important anymore, we got other interesting areas we wanted to visit, making Leichlingen again somewhat unattractive. So for these reasons, in a way, I’m glad that Hilal put an event there.

In the morning people were wondering if there was a possibility to go to toilet along the way. I know the station Solingen very well and also Leichlingen, and could say exactly where to go. As I saw the reactions, I started realizing how much I know this area after organizing so many hikes.

I wouldn’t say it was so nice in Greece, but it was a gloomy weather today, and quite windy. Well I got so used to seeing the sun in the meantime.

I thought Leichlingen would be totally flat. It was indeed somewhat flat, but still it made sense to hike there. Also, since it was still ramadan and Hilal couldn’t hike quite a lot, I thought it would be boring, but it was a lot better than I thought.

We had a break pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Some people who started a little bit later also managed to join us at this point.

I heard the reason why there were so many people at once today was partly because in the other group in Cologne they started asking for donations. I don’t really understand who in the 21st century would have such an old-fashioned idea, but anyway many people moved to our group for this reason.

In Leichlingen we had an ice cream in the usual place (ok I forgot to take a photo). Perfect ending!
