Hey! It’s spring! Let’s enjoy the nice warmer weather outside over a weekend with hills, castle and more! This time, I’m proposing a weekend trip to Cochem, a beautiful hilly region along the Mosel river together with the famous Eltz castle!

So the plan is quite simple: we’ll see each other at Düsseldorf Hbf in the morning of March 30. Then we’ll take a train up to Pommern. And then hike towards the city of Cochem along the Moselsteig. We stay at the youth hostel of Cochem and the next day (March 31), we’ll have a short trip to the Eltz Castle, a very famous one around this region (NB: the castle itself is closed).

The plan for the first day is as follows: we’re gonna see each other on the platform 16 of Düsseldorf Hbf at  8:45. Then:

  1. Departure: Düsseldorf Hbf platform 16 at 8:58 (RE 5)
  2. Arrival: Koblenz Hbf platform 2 at 10:42
  3. Departure: Koblenz Hbf platform 9 at 11:25 (RB 81)
  4. Arrival: Pommern platform 1 at 12:06

I’m going to buy Schönes-Wochenende-Tickets (or Rheinland-Pfalz-Tickets for students) and you can give me back the money later (the best would be on the train, since we’ll have plenty of time there)

I already have a reservation for 24 people at the youth hostel of Cochem, although the number is probably flexible. It costs 23,50€ per person. The ticket for both ways will cost 25,60€ (or 18€ for students with NRW ticket).

The youth hostel offers towels for 1€ per person, so you might prefer to bring one yourself.

As always, I haven’t got any idea for the evening in Cochem. And since I don’t mind whoever doing whatever as long as the overall plan (i.e. youth hostel and trains) works out, so feel free to suggest whatever you like.

You can download the trail from here (kml-format) and here (gpx-format) for the first day and here (kml) and here (gpx) for the second day! We’ll be hiking along the Rheinsteig so you can follow the tag all way long!
