Hiking around Königswinter!

Hiking around Königswinter!

Hey! It’s the coldest time of the year, but is it really the reason to do nothing? How about enjoying the moment with a lot of cool people! This time we’re hiking around Königswinter also to visit this famous castle Drachenfels!

So the plan is quite simple: we’re gonna see each other in front of Köln Hbf at 10:45. Then:

  1. Dep: 11:02 Köln Hbf – Platform 3 (RE 10815)
  2. Arr: 11:43 Königswinter – Platform 1

Then we start hiking. Easy, isn’t it? If you come from a different city, feel free to join us wherever you want on the way! It’s within the VRS region so if you have a VRS ticket, you can travel there for free. Even if you don’t it’s very likely that someone can take you for free so just be there in time!

Then we’ll walk according tothis map (in kml-format) or this map (in gpx-format).The total distance is something like 12.8 km. We’ll have a break at Petersburg and/or Drachenfels. It would be helpful if you’d bring something to eat and a picnic blanket. You are also very welcome to bring a ball/frisbee, a guitar and more!

Regardless of the weather, I will NOT cancel the event, so please check it out yourselves and decide whether to come or not yourselves.

This event is also organized on Facebook. Check it out from here:

Easter trip to Marseille

Hey! A long harsh winter is over! Now let’s get out of the cells and enjoy the great nature over the weekend of Easter!

So, here’s what happened so far: I booked a place for up to 14 people in the city center of Marseille from Easter Thursday (Apr. 14 2021) to the Tuesday after that (Apr. 18). There are 5 double beds and 4 couches – Shrijal and I say 230€ per bed and 195€ per couch (i.e. it will be the same amount whether you use it alone or with someone else).

IMPORTANT: I don’t organise the journey to Marseille, so please do it yourselves 🙂

More will follow…

Leading hike to Ax-les-Thermes!
May 30 @ 3:00 pm – Jun 3 @ 4:00 pm
Leading hike to Ax-les-Thermes!

This event is only partly public – you can join if you want but frankly I don’t know what could happen.

In this trip, we are going to hike from Aulus-les-Bains to L’Hospitalet-près-l’Andorre, in order to enjoy beforehand the weekend in Ax-les-Thermes that follows. In strong contrast to the event in Ax-les-Bains, this one is going to be fairly tough; we will walk along what’s called HRP (Haute Route Pyrénées), which is a hiking route going over mountains in the Pyrenees.

Day I (May 30)

We arrive in Aulus-les-Bain on May 30. We can go to Saint Girons by train and take a bus from there to Aulus-les-Bains. Here’s the bus schedule. For now, the plan is to arrive there around 2pm and we hike towards Étang de Bassiès. There’s a refuge there. Since it’s difficult to arrive there from Düsseldorf within a day, it would be advisable to stay in Toulouse or Paris in the night before.

Day II (May 31)

On the first day we will walk to Fourcat, where there is one refuge. In terms of distance this is going to be the hardest one.

Day III (June 1):

We walk from Fourcat to El Serrat. Somewhere on the way we cross the border to Andorra (Note: your phone might not work in Andorra, at least mine doesn’t). If we cannot make it, there’s also a refuge in Monicou. There are a few hotels in El Serrat.

Day IV (June 3):

We walk from El Serrat to Juclar. There is one refuge at the end. In terms of height difference, this one is going to be the toughest one.

Day V (June 3)

We walk from Juclar to L’Hospitalet-près-l’Andorre crossing the border to France. From there we’ll take a train to Ax-les-Thermes to join the others for the subsequent weekend. There are trains until 7pm every 2h, so it should be fine.

In general, it looks like it’s going to be extremely difficult to find something to eat, so we should definitely think about carrying as much stuff to eat as possible.

Pentecost trip to Pyrenees!
Jun 3 @ 6:00 pm – Jun 6 @ 7:00 pm

Hey! It’s Pentecost! We got a great long weekend! Why don’t you make sense of such a great weekend with a lot of cool people? This time we’re going to this beautiful city of Ax-les-Thermes, in the middle of the Pyrenees!

So the plan is very simple: Come to Ax-les-Thermes some time during the day on June 3. I’ve already booked a place for 10 people, so you don’t need to organise anything for the stay. Since it’s an AirBnB, we have to organise breakfast and everything on the spot.

Day I (June 4, 2022):

We can hike according to the following map after breakfast:

Day II (June 5, 2022):

We take the train leaving at 9:43 and go to Mérens-les-Vals and start hiking according to this map:

Day III (June 6, 2022)

Probably I don’t organise anything in particular on the last day – we can maybe go to Toulouse and do sightseeing 🙂 It’s anyway a super interesting city.

For now I’d say 50€ per person for 3 nights (!?). The place doesn’t offer linen and towels which can be rented for 35€ and 15€, respectively.

There’s a night train from Paris to Ax les Thermes, so think about taking it! If you do so, you might also want to think about taking a Carte Weekend beforehand, which is the French equivalent of Bahncard. It costs 49€ a year and you and a person you’ll be with can have a 30% discount on the train ticket.
